Dear colleagues,

After a long and careful evaluation of the evolving COVID-19 pandemic, and in consideration of our commitment with the health and safety of our members and colleagues, the OMEP Executive Committee (EXCO) has decided to postpone the 72th World Assembly and Conference to be held in Athens from 13 to 17 July 2020, to 12 to 16 July, 2021. The programme and the venues will remain the same.

Accepted submitted abstracts can be kept until next year, but, if someone does not wish to present it at OMEP2021, s/he will have the possibility to withdraw it, sending an email at [email protected] and stating the abstract number.

For new submissions we inform you that, in about six months, OMEP Greece and AFEA (responsible for the organization and logistics) will open again the abstract submission portal.

The current preliminary review suggests that OMEP has succeeded in minimizing the costs due to the postponement. If some colleagues are currently registered for OMEP 2020, the registration can remain in place for OMEP 2021. To avoid significant bank charges, no refunds can be provided if someone cannot attend OMEP 2021, but substitution of delegates, in the same registration category, will be accepted at any time. If you need any other information related with registrations, please contact: [email protected]

The Registration online form will remain open for those who wish to attend OMEP2021 but have not registered yet.

If you want to be kept informed, please register to receive our newsletter or visit and OMEP’s social networks.

Hoping to return to a healthy situation in the coming months and with thoughts for you and your loved ones, we look forward to seeing you next year in a strong and amazing OMEP World Assembly and Conference in Athens.

On behalf of the OMEP Executive Committee:
Mercedes Mayol Lassalle
World President

Dear colleagues,

The OMEP National Committee of Greece invites you to the 72nd World Assembly and OMEP International Conference which will be held in Athens, the capital of Greece, a country where the ancient philosopher Plato highlighted the importance of Early Childhood Education. Education in early childhood and elementary school is fundamental for every individual, because it promotes holistic child’s development, offers opportunities for exploration and learning, and cultivates critical thinking and creativity. At the same time, Pre-school Education plays an important role in children’s school readiness and success, in order for them to become future active citizens. Although Pre-school Education as a concept, has a long history, there are still many issues to be presented and discussed, such as the appropriate children’s entrance age to Pre-school Education, the quality of Early Childhood Education and the question of the need to establish Pre-school Education as mandatory or not. In addition, it is necessary to discuss issues like the content of curricula, inclusion and equality in Early Childhood Education, children’s educational rights and teachers’ professional skills and development.

The theme for the OMEP International Conference in July 2021, is based on the need to consider and explore contemporary issues and dilemmas for Pre-school Education in the 21st century. There are four main key-themes and many subthemes. Our wish is that any member of OMEP, professor, teacher, counsellor or other professional interested in Early Childhood Education would have the opportunity to participate in individual presentations, posters and symposiums at the Conference.

You are most welcome in Athens!

Effrosyni Katsikonouri

President of OMEP Greece
